Application Process

Thank you for you interest in the WSU general adult psychiatry residency program! Please see below for more detailed application information.

  • All residency positions are filled through the National Residency Matching Program, and applications are submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service.
  • We offer interviews only to applicants whose USMLE or COMLEX 1 & 2 scores average at least 220; multiple attempters are screened out.
  • Applicants must have been in medical school, residency, or active practice as a physician within 5 years of applying to the program.
  • IMG's may be offered spots under a J1 visa only (not H1).  U.S. health care experience, particularly in psychiatry, will be given preference.
  • Interviews are scheduled on Mondays and Fridays from October through January.
  • On the day of the interview, applicants will be given a tour of the Inpatient Unit at the VA Medical Center, and meet a variety of faculty as well as residents.
  • The program filled all of its 9 PGY-1 positions in the 2017 Match, and we have no advanced standing openings.
  • Applicants are encouraged to apply early because our interview slots fill quickly.  Application deadline is December 1st.
  • We do not offer observerships due to privacy and liability issues.
