Rotation Schedule and Didactics


Program Outline

Year 1

  • Inpatient at Hawthorn Center in Northville, MI - 6 months
  • Outpatient & Consultation to an In-Home Treatment Team at University Psychiatric Center-Livonia in Livonia, MI (includes supervision for Day Care Consultation at Schoolcraft College Children's Center in Livonia) - 6 months

Year II

Sequence A

  • Pediatric Consultation & Emergency/Neurology/Developmental Disabilities at Children’s Hospital of Michigan -6 months (24 hours/week)
  • Outpatient at UPC-Livonia - 6 months (8 hours/week)

Sequence B

  • Outpatient at UPC-Livonia (includes Chemical Dependency at Growth Works in Canton, MI) - 6 months (28 hours/week)*
  • School and Forensic Consultation at Livonia and Redford Union Public Schools as well as the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility in Detroit - 6 months (4 hours/week)

*Electives - up to a total of 2 months en bloc (24 hours/week) or part-time experiences.

**No overnight call in either year.

Didactics

There are separate didactic sequences for Year I and Year II, with a summer interviewing course and two monthly case conferences in common. Residents are expected to attend weekly departmental grand rounds. There is a required scholarly paper focusing on an evidence-based topic during Year II and an ongoing quality improvement project.

Evaluation Methods

Residents take the PRITE as a PG-4 and the Child PRITE each year, and Mock Boards are held as an annual clinical skills examination. There are residents’ meetings with the chief resident as well as an annual departmental residents’ retreat. The Program Evaluation Committee has resident representatives and meets quarterly.
