About Us
The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences (DPBN) is an academic department within the Wayne State University School of Medicine. Our mission is to study and find solutions for the etiology and treatment of serious and chronic mental disorders. These goals are achieved by an integration of basic and clinical research in a setting that fosters high quality education-training and superior clinical services offered by Wayne Health and other affiliated physicians.

Our laboratories focus on critical areas such as trauma, stress, addiction, aging, and neurodevelopment, employing cutting-edge techniques like neuroimaging, biomarker analysis, and behavioral interventions. From exploring the effects of childhood adversity on brain development to investigating novel treatments for psychiatric disorders, our labs are at the forefront of translational research aimed at improving mental health outcomes across the lifespan.
