Biography
Dr. Arfken is a Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences at Wayne State University in Detroit Michigan. Her training include a PhD in chronic disease epidemiology from Yale University and a postdoctoral fellowship in alcohol research from the University of California in Berkeley. Prior to completing her doctorate, she was a research associate in economics at Yale University. Before moving to Wayne State University, she was on the faculty at Washington University in St. Louis, in the division of Biostatistics and then in the Center for Health Behavior Research (Internal Medicine). In addition to research on substance abuse epidemiology and mental health services, she is the epidemiologist and vice chair of the Detroit Wayne Mental Health Authority Substance Use Disorder Oversight Policy Board.
